We are pleased to host the next installment of the IIF Cyber Security Roundtable - Securing the Future: Cyber Risk, AI, and Real-Time Payments, on Monday, September 28, kindly hosted by Banco Santander in Madrid.

As payments systems become increasingly real-time and AI-driven, cyber risk is emerging as a defining challenge for financial institutions and regulators alike. This event will explore how the adoption of AI in payments is enhancing capabilities while also introducing new vulnerabilities, from fraud and identity manipulation to more complex, AI-enabled attack vectors. A keynote on the age of real-time payments and agentic AI will frame how innovation is reshaping the ecosystem, even as the threat landscape rapidly evolves.

The program will then shift to resilience and tail risk, examining how institutions and authorities are preparing for extreme but plausible cyber scenarios. Sessions will cover fraud and identity challenges, “cyber black swans,” and the implications of regulatory frameworks such as DORA, before addressing a critical question: are banks truly prepared for systemic cyber shocks? The discussion will conclude with the broader strategic challenge facing Europe, how to balance resilience, innovation, and sovereignty in an increasingly contested digital environment.

This event will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
